Awkward Introductions
June 10th 2009 01:46
I feel that seeing as this is my first blog, I should begin with introductions. I suppose all of you reading this would like to know who is typing this fascinating and intriguing sequence of words that is keeping your eyes glued to the screen, on the edge of your seat, heart racing in anticipation of what will be next said. So let's begin at that. Introductions.
Hi, I'm Jill. (Insert group chorus of "Hi Jill" here) And I'm a Foodie. Pure, raw, organic foodie. I'm the type of person who watches The Food Network when I'm home. The type who sits at dinner, discussing what recipes I've tried lately and what I look forward to trying in the future. Who goes shopping at grocery stores for a mother/daughter day and doesn't even step foot in a clothes store. Who goes to bed at night thinking about what I'm going to have for breakfast in the morning.
Yeah, I'm slightly crazy. I've accepted it and I figured we should get that out in the open right away. So it's out, let's move on.
Anyway, I am not only just a foodie. Oh no. I am a health nut foodie. Seems somewhat oxymoronic, doesn't it? But it's true.
Wait.
Don't stop reading just because I brought up health.
I know. You're probably thinking "Oh no, here's another blog about health food and what's good for me and what I should and shouldn't eat. Well I'm sick of kale and tofu, so I'm moving onto the next blog." Was I close? I bet I was.
But I promise this will have nothing to do with kale or tofu. I've never even tasted either one of those things and have a feeling I would not find the experience too pleasant. I do, however, enjoy a good steak with potatoes, chili and cornbread, chicken cordon bleu and some homemade bread, and almost anything else my little heart desires. While maintaining my 120 pounds.
'How?' you ask? Excellent question. I will explain.
I do my best to make everything I eat healthy in every way possible. Low fat, low sugar, low sodium, low calorie, including a good dose of vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, proteins, and (of course) flavor. Most of the time, I succeed. Every once in awhile, a recipe will elude the fine art of healthifying, leaving me feeling helpless and as a failure, at least until the next successful recipe comes along.
So here I am. To present you with my healthy recipes, dining experiences, ideas, and randomness that just seems to excrete itself from my fingertips onto the computer screen. And being my first post, I do not wish to present you with an overload of information, so the first recipe is to come (plus, it's best to leave you all on a cliff-hanger so you come back for more!). But I will leave you with my food addictions that everyone should try (all healthy, of course!):
Peanut Butter (on anything and everything. . . or just straight out of the jar with a spoon!)
Apples
Popcorn (light butter microwave with a little bit of taco seasoning. . . mmmm!! Makes my day!)
Robeks Smoothies and Stuffed Pretzels (not every day, but great as a special treat. . . if you've never been to a Robeks, check it out right away. Seriously. Get in your car and find one right now.)
Frozen Yogurt (more to come on some of the best places I've been lately)
Grilled Cheese with Salsa (and you thought you had to avoid cheese to be healthy. . .)
Pita bread with Hummus
And so now I leave you to ponder on those delicious foods above while I satisfy my own hunger that suddenly sprung up with a spoonful of peanut butter and the delicious crisp Granny Smith Apple that is calling my name from the kitchen. Farewell and happy fooding!
